    Carbon Footprint: Stakeholder Engagement.

Your carbon data is accurate, but it doesn't automatically convince your CEO, board, or employees that it matters.

    01

    What this is for

The board cares about risk and cost savings. Employees care about company purpose and their role in it. Customers care about brand values. One set of carbon data, but you need different messages for each group. AI helps you create these.

    02

    Why AI changes the approach

Your carbon data is accurate, but it doesn't automatically convince your CEO, board, or employees that it matters. AI helps you translate data into compelling stories tailored for each audience.

    03

    Step-by-step

    1. 1

List your stakeholders and what they care about

      • Who do you need to convince? (CEO, CFO, board, employees, customers, investors, partners)
      • For each group, write: What matters to them? Cost? Brand? Risk? Impact?
      • Example: CEO cares about competitive advantage. CFO cares about cost savings. Employees care about "we're doing good."
    2. 2

Define your carbon story with facts

      • What's your carbon footprint? (total number)
      • Did it go up or down? By how much?
      • What caused the change? (efficiency improvement, new facilities, supplier changes?)
      • What's your target? (reduce by 50% by 2030?)
      • What have you already invested in? (renewable energy, electric vehicles, etc.?)
    3. 3

Ask AI to create tailored messages

      • For each stakeholder group, ask AI to write a short paragraph explaining your carbon progress in their language
      • Include specific numbers (don't say "we improved"—say "we reduced by 23%")
      • Focus on what matters to them
    4. 4

      Gather evidence and examples

      • Ask AI to help you find 2-3 concrete examples of your carbon efforts
      • Example: "We switched to renewable energy at 2 facilities" or "We negotiated lower-carbon shipping with 5 suppliers"
      • These make the story real, not abstract
    5. 5

      Create messaging documents

      • Ask AI to compile your messages into a 1-page guide per audience
      • Include: key message (1 sentence), supporting facts, talking points, and FAQ responses
      • Save these—use them in emails, presentations, and conversations
    04

    Ready-to-use prompts

Adapt to your actual files and context before using.

Prompt 1 (tailored messaging for different audiences)
    Here's our carbon story:
    - 2024 carbon footprint: 50,000 tons CO2e
    - Reduction from 2023: 15% (because we switched to renewable energy at 2 facilities and improved supply chain efficiency)
    - Target: 30% reduction by 2030
    - Investments to date: $2M in renewable energy, supplier engagement program
    - Biggest source: Supply chain (70% of our emissions)
    - Write a 1-paragraph message for each of these groups. Make it relevant to what they care about:
    - CFO/board (focused on cost and risk)
    - Employees (focused on company purpose and their role)
    - Customers (focused on brand and values)
    - Investors (focused on long-term strategy and competitive advantage)
Prompt 2 (explaining carbon in simple terms)
I need to explain our carbon reduction to our employees in very simple terms. They don't know much about sustainability. Our story: We reduced carbon by 15% by switching 2 facilities to renewable energy and working with suppliers to reduce packaging. Write a 100-word explanation that makes them understand WHY we did this and what it means.
Prompt 3 (creating talking points for leadership)
I'm presenting our carbon progress to the board. They'll ask tough questions. Here's what we've done:
    - Reduced carbon 15% in 2024
    - Spent $2M on renewable energy
    - Engaged 20 suppliers on carbon reduction
    - Still have supply chain as our biggest opportunity (70% of emissions)
    - What are the 3 toughest questions they might ask? For each one, help me draft a 2-sentence answer that's honest but positive.
